Ben Ramsey graduated with a First Class Honours degree from Northumbria University in 2018. The intensive study programme takes four years and exempts students from a separate BPTC year. It is hard work and Ben achieved very high marks across the board.
Coming from the North-East of England, Ben has worked throughout the area as an Independent Custody Visitor, under the PCC for Cleveland. This makes him much more aware of the police station environment than most criminal barristers. This role involved comprehensive knowledge of PACE and the Codes of Practice. This is something that is highly-useful at the criminal Bar.
At the other end of the CJS, Ben also worked as a paralegal and then advocate in prison law and criminal appeals. This work gave him an excellent knowledge of the practical effects of sentences, as well as an appreciation for the realities of prison life, unlike many criminal lawyers whose involvement has always stopped in the court cells.
As an award-winning contributor to Legal Cheek and as an Honour Roll student, Ben is an ideal addition to the junior ranks of Central Chambers.
His pupillage is under Benjamin Knight, the Head of Crime at Central Chambers.
Ben Ramsey will be available for instruction from October 2022, as part of the Central Chambers criminal law team.
