Abid Mahmood

Abid Mahmood is a specialist in numerous areas of law and is able to use his experience to great advantage for his clients. His main Chambers are No5 Chambers, Birmingham, London and Bristol and he is an associate member at Central Chambers.

He has been referred to in the leading directories for many years. The 2011 Legal 500 refers to him as highly regarded. The Chambers and Partners Directory 2012 refers to him as ” Abid Mahmood draws respect from sources for “his good brain and the consistent work which proves this.” Commentators also note his excellent communication with clients”. The Legal 500 2010 referred to him as “a genius”.

He is a Recorder of the County Court and sits on family law and civil law cases.

He is a Fee Paid Immigration Judge and sits in London.

Abid is a Special Advocate and is on the Attorney General’s List of Special Advocates approved to undertake national security cases.

He has appeared in many leading cases at the House of Lords, Court of Appeal and High Court in various areas of law. He has had over 30 appearances in those Courts in the last few years.

Abid is keen to continue to develop his practice in regulatory and disciplinary work including at the GMC and GDC. He has acted for individuals, Guardians and local authorities in proceedings in respect of Court of Protection matters but has extensive experience of cases concerning human rights, freedom of movement and immigration/asylum/nationality. He regularly provides expert opinions for such issues for the court and for parties.

He regularly advises companies, including multi nationals in respect of business immigration issues relating to the Points Based System and Colleges in respect of Tier 4 cases.

He is approved by the Bar Council to undertake Public Access work.

He enjoys speaking at conferences and has in the past been invited to speak in New Delhi India and in Dubai at the International Bar Association Conference in November 2011.
