The protest team at Central Chambers are committed to protecting the right to protest and upholding the rule of law. Given the increase in arrests for taking part in protests it is vital that experienced counsel are instructed at the earliest stages in order to lead to a successful defence.
We regularly accept instructions in relation to those protesting a broad range of issues. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience in dealing with criminal cases brought against protesters. In particular the team have dealt with a high volume of cases arising from the successful environmental protests against hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”).
Each member of the team is an experienced criminal advocate and is equally passionate when assisting clients in asserting their right to protest. Our team has represented clients in the Magistrates’ Court, the Crown Court and the High Court. We are used to dealing with complex legal and evidential issues at all levels and have found a great deal of success when advancing innovative points of law.
While members of the team are experienced in all aspects of civil liberties cases, we have a particular specialism with complex prosecutions brought under s241 Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 as well as cases involving alleged obstruction of the highway.
Central Chambers accepts instruction in all types of demonstration cases and are happy to assist with initial advice, representation at trial and advice on appeal.
