Central Chambers Member

Dr Tony Thorndike

Call: 1994

Qualifications: BSc (Econ) (Hons) International Relations; MSc Development Studies; PhD; PGDL.

Dr Tony Thorndike joined Central Chambers from chambers in the Midlands.  Formerly a university Professor in International Economic Relations, his experience as a magistrate for 13 years led him into law.  He is a part-time Immigration Judge and a Law Society approved trainer.   He is also qualified in alternative dispute resolution and mediation.

He is responsible for the well-known Central Law Training course in prison law, which he has successfully delivered to very many solicitors up and down the country, since 2001.  Not surprisingly, his specialism in Central Chambers is prison work, including representation at Parole Board hearings and disciplinary hearings, and judicial review.

He also undertakes civil work, especially negligence, breach of contract, personal injury and clinical negligence.

Tony is a panel member of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Pro Bono Representation Scheme, concerned with advising distressed British subjects overseas, and is an associate of Fair Trials Abroad.

He is a member of the Administrative Law Bar Association, the Prison Reform Trust, the Howard League and Liberty.
