After 18 years as a fully qualified nurse and registered midwife, Penelope Maudsley changed careers and became a barrister. She came to Central Chambers from chambers in the Midlands and quickly made her mark. She arrived with a practice that consisted of Immigration and Asylum complimented by crime, mainly defence, but since then she has expanded her areas has been instructed on Fitness to Practise hearings before the GMC.
She also appears regularly before the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal, representing a wide range of appellants,and has also appeared before the High Court in appeal and judicial review proceedings.
She does some prosecution work in the magistrates' courts, as well as defence, but all her extensive and wide ranging Crown Court work is for the a defence. She also undertakes family law work, particularly care proceedings.
Penelope, or Penny, is known for her calmness under pressure, extensive preparation for every case and her commitment.
